Happy Thanksgiving

I wish to take this opportunity to extend a Happy Thanksgiving to each and every one of you. I sincerely hope your long weekend will be filled with family, friends and much joy and laughter. This weekend when I sit down with my loved ones I will be thankful for all of you who take time from your day to stop by and read the humble writings of a fellow daycare provider. Thank you all for allowing me a platform for my voice. You have no idea how grateful I am for all of the kind words via email and the comment form that many of you have extended. Without all of you this blog would not exist. Every daycare provider and parent who stops by everyday is motivation for me to write.

Enjoy this time with your loved ones. I too will be enjoying a few extra days off myself. I look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday. Before I sign off I have one favour to ask. This weekend while you are out filling your grocery cart please take time to place a few additional cans and boxes in the basket and place those much needed items in the food bank bin located in your store. Somewhere a family will thank you. Remember - those who have more should give more.

Again, my most gracious thanks to you all. Happy Thanksgiving.

For concerns, advice or suggestions I welcome your email at judytrickett@yahoo.ca

Thanks Judy - we don't have local family so we have invited a family for dinner who could use a meal and some company (maybe the company even more). It would be a shame to be able to make a wonderful dinner and not share it. I can only imagine the feelings a mother would have not being able to provide a meal for her children.
Happy Thanksgiving,

Happy Thanksgiving to you all! I am entertaining 22 tomorrow evening - I did send both my boys off to school today with cans and packages of pasta for their school food drive! (Now that was a sight as they both headed out this morning looking like hunchbacks desperately trying not to fall over with the added weight)
We can all help at this special time.
Enjoy your long weekend ladies

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well Judy! Keep writing and enjoy your time off! I am thankful today for a quiet end to the week, three little kids here today, all resting/sleeping while I roll newspapers for my boys to deliver after school today. I am not thankful for the snow which arrived last night and is still falling, very few flakes, but just enough to give us a taste of winter! For those of you travelling, drive safe this weekend! My bag of food went to the church last weekend and more events are planned from now until Christmas where food will be donated generously all over the city. I am thankful for my warm house today, I've been under the weather most of the week, even took a sick day on Tuesday, the first sick day I've ever allowed myself in ten years of daycare! I think I have you to thank for that Judy, that and everyone being overly cautious about H1N1 this year. The parents who would otherwise bitch and complain probably have strict rules enforced at their own workplaces this season! Seriously though I'm thankful to have found your blog. The gal who told me to check it out no longer provides care so I'm glad she told me when she did. I think I've stepped up a bit this year and have started doing things more geared towards me and my family like taking that sick day for once and scheduling days off to be with just my own kids. And raising the rates in September probably wouldn't have come about without reading your posts full of wisdom. So thank you!!

I'm thankful too that you are out there, Judy. Your blog is my personal time out in the afternoon and, honestly, I am not sure I would still be a CCP if I had not come across your blunt and true account of how things really are and how to cope.

As for sharing my good fortune, the kids' school has a food drive for Thanksgiving and we loaded up the wagon (overloaded, really) with 3 10 lb bags of potatoes, and 3 10 lb bags of carrots and dragged it with a 19 mth old in there too to school earlier this week.

I just love this time of year when everyone is starting to get ready for the long winter ahead and settle in. It feels good to help others to have a great feast to celebrate the changing seasons with friends and family, especially because we used to be on the receiving end.

Happy Thanksgiving to Judy and all her loyal followers! This is my second Thanksgiving with my son Campbell and I'm thankful I can share him with my family far away as we are visiting in Northern Ontario this week. I hope all of you ladies enjoy your time off. It's much deserved! As Kimbercare said, life is good! Although we do regularly give to our local food bank, I am inspired by mustbenuts's post about getting the kids involved. Maybe a field trip idea when I get back could be bringing the kids to drop the food in the bin at our local grocery. I am also thankful for you Judy, I think my first few years providing care would have been alot easier if I would have felt like someone else in the world was going through the same thing as me. Keep up the good work and we'll "see" you next week!

I just love thanksgiving celebration in my daycare. Last year I had the kids make pumpkin jello and bring it home as part of our pre thanksgiving celebration. I even had them make fun cards and wrote down what they were each thankful for to give to their parents. its so lovely when you see children being so innocent and truthful especially when it comes to paying thanks to blessings and people they love.

Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday that you can use to instill a sense of awareness and empowerment in children. I am sure that by now, the kids are aware that Thanksgiving is celebrated yearly but have no idea why so A great activity for the daycare is to have a Thanksgiving skit or kiddie play to help them understand the importance of this holiday to us Americans.
